My earliest memories of growing up in Appalachia were those of sitting on a rocking chair on my porch drinking fresh squeezed lemonade in hot sultry summers and the redolent aroma of mom’s freshly baked corn bread wafting through the kitchen. When we moved to New Delhi, the markets were full of incense spices, hawkers touting their wares, and large vats full of fritters crackling in oil. Our move to Spain introduced us to the pulpo (octopus), ripe olives, and succulent hams as well as the Moorish influence on European cuisine. The move back to the US landed us in the Dakotas living amongst farmers turning stone to bread.
I grew up eating, cooking, and embracing food in various forms. My palate developed and evolved keeping pace with my body, as did my relationship with food.
My quest to learn more about the different aspects of food got me looking deeper, and what I found has inspired me to share my knowledge, passion, thoughts, and insights.
